| We set off on the Thursday walk on
our Cloudberry Walking Holiday from Borrowdale Youth Hostel, on a
slightly shorter walk than the previous two days, towards Thornythwaite.

 |
Comb Gill |
| The weather was much better than the
day before, and when we all sat down at Thornythwaite Fell, we had
splendid views over Borrowdale, towards Derwent Water and Skiddaw. |

| The original route in the itinary
was to Combe Head, but as this took us so close to the 20ft Step onto
Glaramara's summit, and as Nigel knew that we were attempting to climb
the top 100 fells in the Lake District of which Glaramara is one,
he took pity on us and arranged for us to stop for lunch below the
20ft Step, thus allowing us and anybody else that wanted to do so,
to climb onto the summit in the lunch break. |
 |
the 20ft step on glaramara |
| Needless to say, most people had more
sense than to climb the 20ft step, choosing an extended lunch break
instead, so the summit was not overcrowded when I took David's picture. |

| After a quick bite to eat in what
was left of the lunch break, we made our way to Rosthwaite Fell, where
we had some splendid views in all directions, including towards the
Gables, allowing us clear views of tomorrow's walk to Green Gable. |

| The previous day, we had been so close
to the high fells at the back of the Scafell range and also the Langdale
Pikes, but with the visibility so poor we had not been able to see
any of them. Today, however, we were able to see Langstrath clearly,
with Pike O'Stickle in the background. |

| The final summit of the day was Bessyboot.
We renamed it Boggyboot due to the conditions underfoot near Tarn
at Leaves on the way to the summit, but the summit itself was very
pleasant, offering excellent views. |

| From Bessyboot, we took the path down
from near Tarn at Leaves to above Thornythwaite and then back to the
Youth Hostel. |
